Shailene Woodley has been confirmed by Hypable as “in consideration” for the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster in the upcoming adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. If John Green and Wyck Godfrey’s tweets are anything to go by, it seems like she’s probably going to be cast in the role, unless this news is director-related. Since, in previous reports, Wyck Godfrey has said he would wait for a director to cast any actors. However…Shailene did retweet John’s tweet about big news (at her account @ShaileneWoodley), so I’m thinking she probably has this role, or she’s close to closing negotiations. She is on fire isn’t she? With her role in The Spectacular Now that received amazing reviews from critics, the leading role in the huge upcoming franchise Divergent, and her upcoming role in the Spiderman film, and now possibly one of the biggest adaptations of the year. She’s on a fast track to mega-stardom. Check out the tweets below:

As much as I want an unknown, I really think that Shailene could be an awesome Hazel. I’ll admit she’s way different than I imagined the character but I try to trust the people in charge. I can see it, if they cut her hair, she’d be able to pull of her look! They almost always choose the right people in the end, don’t they? Sound off in the comments: Do you think Shailene is a good fit for Hazel? Who would be a great Gus to her Hazel?

NO! She’s already Tris! Don’t take away Hazel. I’d love to see someone like Mae Whitman or someone a little less supermodel like for Hazel.

Okay this girl hast to stop. No disrespect but she cant be Hazel. Why cant people choose an actress that isnt well known or someone else please. Part of me cant really take Shaileen seriously because of the teen pregnancy show she was in. I dont mind her being Tris because its only one series i love but not another one thats just too much.

I don’t know how I feel about this. The only role I’ve seen her in is on Secret Life, and that performance isn’t close to what is needed for Hazel. I hope this is just a rumor.

I agree with both of you, Sam and Megan.

No way. Please, don’t take away Hazel. I agree with Aelia- I’d love to see someone new play Hazel. Besides, the character description of Hazel doesn’t fit Shailene at all- i bet a pageboy cut wouldn’t look good on her.

Could John Green be following in Stephen Chbosky’s shoes by directing TFiOS? Since Wyck said they wouldn’t cast without a director, and it sounds like the only person they’ve truly met with (or who’s confirmed it anyway) IS Stephen Chbosky, who revealed that he turned down the gig because he felt it would be to similar to ‘Perks’ and his second movie (which is obviously unknown at this point). Plus, Wyck seems to understand the book and it’s nuances, and maybe he realizes that John would be a perfect choice to direct it. On the topic of Shailene, I hope she ISN’T Cast, but I could see her being a FANTASTIC Hazel

@Natalia Thank you. I really loved how Hazel wasn’t this perfect looking girl. Shailene just looks like a hollywood glamor girl, not Hazel with her “chubby cheeks” and “Natalie Portman (in V for Vendetta)” look.

Apparently,at this point, Shailene and Hailee Steinfeld are up for the role of Hazel. Of the two, I’d take Shailene over Hailee

I really think that David Henrie would make an excellent Augustus.
