Penryn fancast

Angelfall Movie: Top four fancasts for the role of Penryn, produced by Spider-Man’s Sam Raimi!

It is the year of book adaptations, they say, and with the future releases of films such as City of Bones, Catching Fire, Percy Jackson, and The Maze Runner, there’s quite a lot of competition going on. Producer’s Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Spider-Man) and Rob Tapert (30 Days of Night) signed on to the adaptation of Angelfall, a novel by author Susan Ee, back in 2012. Being no strangers on working together on film, it came as a pleasant surprise when both showed interest in adapting the novel.

With the fanbase only expanding, and previously being self-published and an internet sensation, Angelfall tells the story of our female protagonist, Penryn, who lives in the post apocalyptic world where Angels have destroyed the earth.

Six weeks after angels of the apocalypse descend to demolish the modern world, street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back… even if that means making a deal with an enemy angel Raffe.

With the announcement of an adaptation of the film, fans of Angelfall jumped at the chance of fancasting, so today I bring you the most frequently brought up, and top four casting for the female lead Penryn Young.

Alexandra Daddario

Percy Jackson star, Alexandra Daddario, was one of the most frequently used in terms of fanart for the role of Penryn, and with good reason. With her role as Annabeth in Percy Jackson, she proves she has the fierce and strong female persona that Penryn is said to have, and portrays that onto the screen extremely well. She also has the correct physical appearance of Penryn, with her dark hair and startling blue eyes, it’s easy to see why she’s on such high demand by the Angelfall fanbase.

Emily Rudd

There’s not much to go on regarding the model, Emily Rudd, but her face has emerged several times regarding the Angelfall fancasts. She has the correct description and is incredibly beautiful, however the worry for some is the softness in her features, making her look more innocent than many pictured Penryn to be. But as some say, looks can be deceiving!

Kaya Scodelario

This is a personal favourite for me, and I was particularly pleased to see her name pop up in the Angelfall fandom. Mostly because I’ve been a long time fan of the actress, Kaya Scodelario. Originally making her mark in the British TV-Series Skins, and now cast as Teresa in James Dashner’s The Maze Runner, Kaya has often sought after roles that acquire a strong female lead, and has personally said it in an interview. Once more we find ourselves with an actress with the correct description of Penryn, and I have no doubt that Kaya could kick some serious ass in this role!

Crystal Reed

This particular fancast came as a surprise to me, but only because her name isn’t brought up much with fancasts in general. Teen Wolf’s Crystal Reed is another actress to make her mark, playing a character in which her family come from a long line of werewolf hunters, Crystal’s shown she can be skilled with weaponry and fiercely independent. Which is a wonderful quality to have when considering actresses for the role of Penryn.

Susan Ee’s novel Angelfall can be found in the US wherever books are sold, and is scheduled for release in Australia and the UK on the 20th of May.

Soraya is a 20 year-old that has a love for all fictional books, as well as film, a hell of a lot of TV-Shows and for the Page to Premiere site. She's currently studying English Literature at University, and hopes to become an editor within the Publishing Industry someday, and hopefully an author. I really like Emily Rud. When I first saw her I thought of Tessa (Infernal Devices) but I definitely see her as Penryn too. I look forward this adaptation, let’s hope news break soon!

My fancast for Penryn would be Malese Jow, and I am unsure why she isn’t on this list! I’ve seen her on nearly all the Angelfall fanarts!! She would be the perfect Penryn

  • Vannessa Brooks

I’m torn between Emily Rudd and Kaya Scodelario. They seem to be Penryn-like people. Seemingly innocent enough but ready to kick some sorry angel’s butt.

  • Donte-Aro Voltaire McNeal

I like Kaya as Penryn. She’s what I pictured while I was reading.

  • Lizzie Pollard

Emily Rudd and Kaya Scodelario seem like the best fits out of the four options. Crystal Reed is not at all what I pictured, personally, and I don’t think she’d be a good fit. Alexandra Daddario is already in the Percy Jackson films, and she also doesn’t feel quite right. I really like the idea of India Eisley playing Penryn as well (she was Eve in Underworld: Awakening, as well as Ashley in Secret Life).

I thought she was supposed to be Asian!

  • jazmin

I thought I was the only one! I pictured her with some Asian decent.

  • Raquelle

I pictured Penryn to be a little like Lily Collins from The Mortal Instruments : City of Bones.

  • Sophia

Yes! I definitely see her as Penryn

  • Jessica

What about Chloe Bennet, from Agents of SHIELD? I’ve only seen the first three episodes, and I’ve never thought she made a believable computer hacker on the show. BUT I still think she’d be able to handle the banter with Raffe, the action, and the complicated emotions she has with her mom and Paige.

  • Natalie Goodell

When I saw Emily Rudd I thought, “That’s who I pictures Penryn as!” She has that sweet look, which I really like for Penryn, and her looks would be misleading to her personality. I could totally see Emily as Penryn!

Yes! I’m the third person. I pictured her as an Asian or at least has features of an Asian female the whole time I read the book but apparently she is not.

Edit: Sigh. A little disappointing to me though.
