This isn’t surprising at all! The only surprise here, is that it has yet to reach Iron Man’s record of over 1 billion in the box office. According to Variety, the film is third this to year to hit the $500 million milestone next to Iron Man and Monster University.
Marvel’s sequel to the first Thor has done very well in comparison to critic’s reviews. All over the world, critics were bashing The Dark World’s less than thrilling tale, but that however did not stop audiences from cramming into the theater to see the next Marvel Universe film.
Variety reported that:
Overseas, “The Dark World” has amassed $352.2 million through Wednesday, with $152 million Stateside, for a global cume of $504.2 million.
The “Thor” sequel’s worldwide tally already has eclipsed the original’s $449 million global cume earned in 2011.
Take that you stuffy film critics! The movie could still grow in the next two weeks, but with the other Hemsworth brother soaring in with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, we expect to see some dethroning of the 1st place spot at the box office this weekend! Make sure to check out both movies this upcoming Holiday weekend! May the odds be ever in their favor!
