Whoa! Did this not come out of left field or what? Earlier today Warner Bros. announced Israeli actress Gal Gadot to play America’s favorite female superhero and Amazonian princess, Wonder Woman. I think what is most surprising about the casting is that Wonder Woman will be sharing the screen with Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavil). So our first taste of Wonder Woman will not be her own movie or TV series, but with DC’s biggest heroes. Somehow I’m okay with that.
Gal Gadot, best known for her roles on the Fast and Furious movies plaing Gisele Harabo. She’s also been in Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Gadot is an actress and model who won Miss Israel in 2004 and went on to represent her country in the Miss Uiverse pageant. She also spent 2 years in the Israeli army, thank you Hypable for that fact, which most likely will help her in training for this role. Although her frame is slim, we think she could become an amazing Wonder Woman.
Zack Snyder is very excited about this casting and has said: “We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
Gal Gadot has made history by landing the most coveted role for females since Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with The Wind. I can’t imagine how many actresses came into audition for this role. Back in 2010, NBC was supposed to take on a Wonder Woman TV show with Adrianne Palicki at the helm, but the show was canceled even before it aired. What I think the studio, the director, and producer are hoping to accomplish is to slowly give us Wonder Woman without the fans in uproar to get her right. With the already action packed cast, fans aren’t going to have a chance to judge every little detail. Then hopefully we will get our own Wonder Woman movie, but this is all leading up to a Justice League assemble. It’s a smart decision, and one I can’t wait to see unfold.
Batman vs. Superman (placeholder title) is set to be released on July 17, 2015.
