EW shared their exclusive first look at the highly anticipated adaptation of The Giver written by Lois Lowry. The all-star studded cast consist of Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Swift, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, and Katie Homes with David Yates (Harry Potter) directing. Entertanment Weekly’s article focused on the Jeff Bridge’s decisions it took to move the film forward, and the allowances they took with twisting the story. The Giver opens in theaters on August 15th.
Fans can rest easy knowing that Lowry has worked closely with Bridges and Noyce to ensure her vision is represented — right down to dressing the extras on set. “I was happy to hear from Lois that she wasn’t so concerned about all the facts being the same as in the book,” says Bridges. “The spirit of the story is there.”
SYNOPSIS: In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the “real” world.
