WATCH: Stephenie Meyer chats with us about ‘Austenland’ DVD release,’The Host’ sequel and Tom Hiddleston

February 10, 2014

Author and Producer, Stephenie Meyer, spent Friday evening on several google hangouts with fansites and authors to promote the DVD and Blu-ray release of “Austenland” on Tuesday, February 11.  Stephenie and her production company, Fickle Fish Films, produced “Austenland” starring Kerri Russell, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jane Seymour.  On our chat we were joined by our friends at Twilight Moms and Fangirlish.

I asked her about her favorite Austen male character and she said she preferred Colonel Brandon and that Alan Rickman influence her feelings about him.  When it come to a sequel film to “Austenland” in the way of  Shannon Hale’s sequel novel, “Midnight in Austeland,” Stephenie said she would love to make it, but doesn’t see it happening since “Austenland” hasn’t recouped its investment. She did say if she could cast it, she sees Tom Hiddleston as Mr. Mallery.  Finally I asked the question so many of you wanted to know – What is happening with “The Host” sequel and what is she working on.  She said she has stalled on writing “The Host” sequel.  She is working on something else for fun, but she doesn’t think it is something that would be published.

Check out our Q&A with Stephenie as well as her responses to Twilight Moms and Fangirlish below:

“Austenland” is available on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, February 11.  Special features include audio commentary with the film’s producer, Stephenie Meyer, and the film’s director, Jerusha Hess.  Also included is a Q&A with cast about the making of the film.  “Austenland” is based on the novel of the same name by author Shannon Hale.

Thank you to Jessica Purkey, a longtime Stpehenie Meyer fan, for joining me on the Page to Premiere chat.

It’s official. By the time I’ll read a new Stephenie Meyer novel I’ll be 70.

Maybe that’s a good thing though. I did not like BD.

I don’t know how old you are, but I’m hoping you’re in your sixties. ;-)

When I interviewed her at “The Host” premiere she was working on the sequel, but I’m guessing the lack of success of the film hurt her motivation. Personally, I would prefer more from the “Twilight” world than a “The Host” sequel, but I’d just be happy with anything new from her.
