Revealed in an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Channing Tatum is definitely in talks to play Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse. Though nothing is confirmed, Tatum has revealed that he has talked to one of the producers, and from the sound of it, this could be a very probable occurrence!
“I met with Lauren Shuler-Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I’ve loved them all, they’re all great. I don’t know, I guess just being from down South and my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and like, I don’t know. I just related to him…He’s the most un-X-Men X-Man that’s ever been in X-Men…He’s just a cool guy that happens to have a good moral center. I hope it [comes together]. You never know it’s a weird industry. If the stars align, I would die to play it. I’m already working on the accent. It’s crappy at the moment.”
Remy LeBeau/Gambit has already been portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in the 2009 Marvel movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Kitsch did an amazing job, but there has been no news of him ever reprising this role. Personally, I think Channing would be perfect as Gambit. He’s a swoon-worthy heartthrob that knows how to have a good time. I’m not sure I know anyone that fits that description better than Channing Tatum. We’re looking forward to hearing more about this movie, and praying that this casting is confirmed!
