Cassandra Clare reveals ‘City of Heavenly Fire’ character will be “brutally cut down in their prime”

Woah there, Cassie! The Mortal Instruments author Cassandra Clare shared on her Twitter account during a Q&A a somewhat staggering fact regarding the final novel in the series, City of Heavenly Fire. Apparently we’re going to see a character die of old age, and a character will also be “brutally cut down in their prime.” Ouch. This is going to hurt, guys. The book hits shelves everywhere on May 27th, 2014. The release party for the book will be held at the 92nd Street Y in New York City on May 26th. I will be there, will you?

Who do you think will die?!

Please don’t let it be Magnus. Please don’t let that pour old soul who dies by Magnus – just nope. He just deserves a good ending!

  • Jamie-Lee Turner

I think its going to be magnus and alec, a bit like romeo and juliet :'(

  • Emma Wortman

I think it will be Simon and Jem. Simon because of the comments about Izzy becoming an Iron sister and because of him losing the Mark of Cain. I think Jem will be the old age death because he is, well, old. I also say this because Cassie Clare said Tessa’s character is partly about death.

Fun Fact: Clockwork Princess’ epilogue was set during COHF
Not related to the news of these causes of death but just wanted to share XD

  • Emily Janine

Jem isn’t old. He aged VERY slowly as a Silent Brother. He may die but, I don’t think it will be from old age.

  • Kristi Farley-Rich

Can’t we just Twilight our way through this. I love all of these characters to much.

  • Anamar Leticia

    This is the end.

  • Josey Lee Burd

OH MY FRICKING JESUS!!! IT’S MAGNUS!!!!XC I bet he’s going to find a way to age normally so he and Alex can be together but something goes wrong :(

  • Tara Hardy

Um, you two haven’t read Clockwork Princess, have you? Because the epilogue is set AFTER the events of COHF in which both Jem and Tessa are alive. :)

  • Amalia Morgenstern

During? Are you sure, was that confirmed? People seem to have always assumed it was just after, the autumn of the start of 2009, where CoHF is December, maybe January 2008.

  • Amalia Morgenstern

No! Jem is still young!! He aged very vey slowly as a SB, he is still young!!

  • Amalia Morgenstern

That’s what I believe, and that this is because the characters of TID finish their stories within the TID books, they have their closure, and nothing huge should be written about that happens to them after the trilogy so that it can stand on it’s own.

  • Amalia Morgenstern

Reading that tweet, I kind of interpret that we can see the contrast between the peaceful death of old age that we have already experienced in TID, and only the one, brutal death in their prime, in CoHF, which sounds utterly tragic and heartbreaking anyway and I don’t think I can deal. Though I still don’t want it to be Seb, even if he is in his prime of evil.

  • Amalia Morgenstern

Oooh, and do you guys think the epilogue will skip ahead in time such as that of CP2? I assume it won’t go any further into the future than TDA in 2012, is it 2012?

  • Harry Styles’s Sweetheart

At this rate! My Malec won’t survive!! My heart!! I don’t think I can take any more!

  • Jordan

Yeah she tweeted it out the other day

  • Tara Hardy

Exactly. They’re just not as important as the current main TMI characters, so giving them big story arcs has no point.

  • Emily Janine

Yes and in the epilogue, he hadn’t aged much. Which is my point, he won’t be dying of old age.

  • Freya Elliott

She gave us so many little hints and stuff which just didn’t happen! Including this one. I find it hilarious that she got us all worked up about nothing.
