According to ScreenRant, ‘House of Cards’ actor Reg. E Cathey has joined the cast of 20th Century Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. Cathey will play the father to Sue (Kate Mara) and Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan), Dr. Franklin Storm. Cathey has previously worked with Michael B. Jordan on ‘The Wire’ so this film will serve as a sort of reunion for the two actors.
There was a mixed reaction to Michael B. Jordan’s casting as Johnny Storm, as he is an African-American actor playing a character who was originally white in the comics. It caused further confusion when Kate Mara – a white actress, was cast as his sister, Sue Storm. There has been speculation about Jordan’s character in the film possibly being adopted – but with this latest casting of Cathey (also African American) as the Storm family’s father, it seems that it’s Mara’s character who will be the adopted one – if that’s the route they’re taking. They may not even acknowlege the Storm siblings’ races at all in the films. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
The movie will also star Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
‘Chronicle’ director Josh Trank is directing the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot, which is due for release on June 19th, 2015. It has been reported by ScreenRant that Fantastic Four may exist in the same universe with Fox’s ‘X-Men’ film series.
