EXCLUSIVE: ‘Outlander’ Featurette – Book to Series

July 9, 2014

Fans of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander, rejoice! Today, we have an exclusive featurette that takes you behind the scenes of the upcoming TV series based on the bestselling books. Gabaldon explains that her books have been optioned for film time and time again, but they never actually made it to the big screen. Ronald Moore, the executive producer, explains that a TV series really was the only way to successfully adapt the intricate story. “If you took this book and boiled it down to two hours, in the process of doing that you’d lose all the things that people who love these books…love.”

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Outlander premieres on Starz, August 9th at 9 PM.

Kimmy is a 22 year old nerdfighter and artist who is the founder and editor-in-chief of Page to Premiere. When she's not writing about books and movies here or on her Hunger Games site called Mockingjay.net, she loves creating original content at her magazine and production company JØLVIE, manically Tumblr-ing, eating sushi, drinking Thai iced tea, and being lazy with her cat Rue! She hopes to be a published author one day. You can follow her on Twitter at @kimmymary.

Hey! There was a great clip up last night 2:15 long and it was wonderful! Now it says it’s not available in my country. WHAT HAPPENED??!!!? Why was it taken down? Is it going back up soon?

  • David R

Jan, I had the same problem – normally when I’m on the web, I use an American IP address (‘caus you Yanks have such great stuff!). It was only after I switched back to my native UK IP address that I could view it.

My guess is a random YouTube error has occurred that changed which region(s) can view it.

  • Jan Pellerite

I’m afraid it will not be going back up until the Starz series comes out. Bummer!! Starz put up a reply to my inquiry and said they didn’t want to spoil the anticipation before it comes out August 9. Apparently, someone put it up that wasn’t suppose to, or they changed their mind and took it down.
    Thanks for the reply!!!

Jan, I just now played the YouTube video on this webpage (ending in … &v=6eB-L5oOOFE) again using an American IP address! If it can be viewed using both US and UK IPAs, from where are you accessing the web that you can’t view it?

Or are you referring to a different video?
