Executive producer talks benefits of splitting ‘Allegiant’ into two films

The Hollywood Reporter chatted with The Divergent Series: Allegiant executive producer Todd Lieberman about translating Veronica Roth’s third novel to the screen, and splitting it into two movies: The Divergent Series: Allegiant and The Divergent Series: Ascendant. The upcoming film Allegiant will hit theaters in the United States on March 18th, 2016.

TODD LIEBERMAN: “What was important for us in this movie was we’re getting outside the wall, so we feel like we’re starting with a big concept of what is over the wall. So once we get over the wall, we get to create this whole entire world of what the bureau is and we’re lucky enough to get Jeff Daniels to play David who runs the bureau, so we’re creating this entire world out there, and then we get to tell this entire story within the bureau. While the book is split into two, we felt like we had a really great opportunity in this one to tell a very compelling story outside of what has been told in the first two movies. The thing about this book is there was so much material in it that I feel like for any of these franchises, this one actually had a natural breaking point.”

What do you think about the expansion of Allegiant?
