Shailene Woodley responds to news that ‘Ascendant’ will be a TV movie

1

It seems that Shailene Woodley, star of the Divergent films, has been just as blindsided by the latest news regarding the franchise as the fans of the stories. Yesterday, the internet was buzzing with the surprise that Lionsgate has decided to not push the final film, The Divergent Series: Ascendant to theaters as planned, due to poor box office performance. Instead, the film will be released as a TV movie and later spawn a spinoff television series similar to Shadowhunters. Shailene shared with Deadline:

“Honestly, I was on a plane when all that happened and I landed, and I’m like, Whoa, what’s going on?!

Understandably she couldn’t share more about her involvement with this upcoming TV movie, because the studio will have to go through some serious negotiations with the actors to discover if it’s in their best interest to stay on board. We’ll keep you posted as we find out more about this, as the news develops.

Spoiler for the end of Allegiant (Book)

I haven’t even watched Insurgent yet, I’ve heard nothing but bad come from the movie series. By them wanting a TV Show spinoff, it leads me to believe that they’re venturing off from the books again, further than ever. To me it’s sounding like they’re going to keep Tris alive to go on through a TV Show. I dunno, it just doesn’t seem like a good idea.
