‘The Divergent Series: Ascendant’ Will Not Hit Theaters

Variety has exclusively confirmed that the final film in the Divergent franchise, Ascendant, will not be opening in theatres. Instead, the conclusion will premiere on television with hopes of a spinoff TV series. This decision is likely to have been made based on the declining box office results as the franchise continued. The first film Divergent did very well in the box office, bringing is $150 million domestically. Insurgent was less successful, but not catastrophically so, bringing in $130 million in the United States. Allegiant however, did not fare so well bringing in only $66 million in the US.

Talk of a spin off is still in the early stages and nothing has been confirmed yet, but it is said that the plan is to wrap up the storylines of the old characters in Ascendant and begin the spinoff series with new characters. The decision to bring in new characters could be for a variety of reasons, one of which being that the movie cast are not likely to sign on to the series. Based on the books it is also clear that continuing with the current characters storylines could be problematic in some cases.

What do you think of this decision? Will you watch a spin off TV series?

Utterly bullocks sorry for the language but these films are my favourite if they don’t make another one I would do one seriously. I don’t know why they could do that, just make the film and see what people say and hopefully we will love it xx
