Chris Evans and Jared Leto were both in talks to join The Girl on the Train a few months ago, but it seems that negotiations with the A-listers fell through and now we have two new cast members – Luke Evans has joined the film as Scott, and Justin Theroux will portray Tom. Paula Hawkins’ novel follows an alcoholic woman named Rachel who is struggling to recover after her ex-husband left her for his mistress, and involves herself in the disappearance of a woman she sees on her train commute. Now instead of Chris Evans, Justin Theroux (of HBO’s The Leftovers) will portray the complicated character of Tom, Rachel’s ex-husband. Chris Evans (of The Hobbit) will portray Scott, who is the male counterpart of the perfect couple she admires from the train.
Emily Blunt will fill the titular role of Rachel, Rebecca Ferguson will play Anna (Rachel’s ex Tom’s mistress turned wife), and Hayley Bennet will portray Megan (the female counterpart of the couple she admires from the train – and eventual missing person). Tate Taylor of The Help is directing, and Stephen Spielberg is producing. The movie has been touted as the next Gone Girl, and will be marketed to the same audiences as David Fincher’s successful adaptation.
