There’s a new Lisbeth Salander, folks! Claire Foy, famous for her leading role in the Netflix series The Crown, is the frontrunner to portray the titular character in the sequel to Sony’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo adaptation according to Variety.
The series by Stieg Larsson has already been adapted into a film series in the author’s native Sweden, and into a preliminary feature directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. However, now it’s looking like Sony is reviving the project with a new director and cast, with Fede Alvarez of Don’t Breathe as director. The Girl in the Spider’s Web book was met with some controversy, because it was written by David Lagercrantz in 2015 (an author hired by the original author’s estate), not Stieg Larsson himself, who passed away in 2004 after a heart attack. This film will be the first adaptation of the new series installment to the big screen.
Currently, The Girl in the Spider’s Web has an October 18th, 2018 release date in the United States.
