Rooney Mara beat out many well-known actresses for the starring role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the David Fincher adaptation of the Stieg Larsson novel which launched a series of four books. Unfortunately, though, the movie did not hit projected box office goals which halted discussions regarding a sequel. Recently, Mara was questioned about her interest in returning to the role of Lisbeth of The Girl Who Played With Fire ever goes back into production. Lisbeth Salander was originally portrayed by Noomi Rapace, who starred in the complete Swedish trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest). During an interview about her most recent film, Una, she shared with Screen Daily:
ROONEY MARA: Yes, I’m still open to [starring in the sequel]but I’m not holding out hope any more.
So, the interest is there, but it seems that it’s been so long that she’s not expecting to get the opportunity to complete Lisbeth’s story.
